Super Marshmallow Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014
I had some fun doing this one! This is Supe rmarshmallow. He came as a fun drawing lesson from a drawing website. I did him in my sketchbook so I put him here on the sketchbook page. I might try to do something more finished and with color on a different piece of paper, and then up load it to the main page.
I was also thinking that it would be fun to create marshmallow characters just for the fun of it. Maybe a marshmallow city to go with it. As you can see, I drew this guy twice with different eyes. I wanted to see which I like better. I think I like the bottom one a little bit better.

Trying Out New Things Monday, July 26, 2010
Again, I was anxious to get to my bigger project, so I decided that I wanted to try a few new things, but I wasn't really sure how to do what I wanted to do. So, I experimented a little until I figured out how to draw a few things. Once I had this figured out, I went ahead and did the bigger project.
One Boring House Monday, July 26, 2010
This is not one of my better sketchbook entries. I did this little house because I was anxious to get on to the bigger drawing project.
The Tower Wednesday, July 21, 2010
I actually did this drawing yesterday, but I am getting up today. I haven't done a sketchbook entry for today yet. This is a tower with a little character I drew. I wish I had more to say about this entry, but I don't.
Today's Sketch Monday, July 19, 2010
I finally decided to start adding to my sketchbook again. I haven't really put any of the sketchbook entries here on the sketchbook page lately. For the most part, I've been putting them on the main page, but I want to get back to putting my bigger projects on the main page and my sketchbook entries here. That was my original intent when I started this web page, and I got away from doing that.
This is another sketch of the buildings I keep doing. I find that when I don't know what I want to draw, I tend lean towards doing these buildings. I need to expand things a little more and try something new.

A New Burr Oak Acorn Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009
I found this acorn on the path where I walk in the park. It looks different than the last one. Most of the nut is small and jammed way up inside the acorn top. I wonder if these are a different kind of Burr Oak Acorn. Or had they just not gotten that mature? Tomorrow I will try to pop out the nut from the top.
Burr Oak Acorn Part V Tuesday, Oct. 20, 20098
There really wasn't much to see here. It looks like when you cut the nut in half, it is just a smooth vanilla color.
Burr Oak Acorn Part IV Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009
After I got the skin off the nut, I saw that the nut was a vanilla color with these squiggly lines on it When I put the two halves together, it looked like a human brain. When I sniffed it at this stage, I noticed that the nut smelled like the woods and smoke. I wasn't brave enough to taste it.
The Burr Oak Acorn Part III Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009
After I pulled the nut from the acorn top, I noticed that the brown outside of the nut is hard. It is actually the shell of the nut. I had hard time cracking it and drawing it. Once I cracked the shell and pulled it off, I noticed that there is a paper skin that surrounded the nut. Once you crack one of these open, the paper thin skin fell off the nut completely just like a peanut you cracked open from the shell. Then of course I did the small cracked shells is pit against someone else. Not much I can do about it.
Burr Oak Acorn Part II Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009
I took the acorn apart by pulling the nut away from the acorn top. Again I noticed a few things I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't done this. The area on the top of the nut that is darker than the rest of is where the top was. It is cool and wet or damp to the touch, and soft too. I also turned the acorn top the other way so I could paint the inside of the top. Interesting, huh!
The Burr Oak Acorn
I painted this little picture in my small Aquabee sketchbook last night. I went for a walk in the park yesterday after work, and I found these large acorns all over the place. The are Burr Oak Acorns. This is how it looks when it falls from the tree and lands on the ground. I have seen both squirrels and chipmunks run through the park with these in thier mouths. They love these. As I drew the different ways to look at an acorn, I noticed that each stage was different from the one before.
A Little Village Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009
I just finished this sketchbook entry a while ago. This has been one of those days where I didn't want to do anything but rest. This was a hard week at work, but I wanted to do something in my sketchbook. I did this little village near a pond because it is different from the other things I have been doing lately. The towers are fun to draw and shade, but I don't want to draw just towers and nothing else. That would be boring.
Cylinder and Cube Towers Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009
I did this sketch last night. I learned how to draw and stack cylinders into a building. Not much different than the cubes. Since I'm not sick anymore, I feel like drawing again. I was drawing when I was sick, but I didn't really feel like doing anything. I tried anyway.
Hiding Aliens Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009
This was another sketchbook entry I did when I was sick. I came up with the idea to add some simple little characters to a drawing just for the fun of it. They are little aliens that are hiding everywhere. Even in the milk container.
Buildings Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009
I did this sketchbook entry when I was sick with a sinus infection a few weeks ago. I wanted to see if I could put these cubes/buildings into some other kind of order than just straight back, or placing them randomly on the page. I came up with a kind of circular composition.
Staggered Buildings Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009
I was getting bored with drawing these darn buildings in the same clusters, so I decided to do them differently. I staggered them.
A Building Cluster Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009
More buildings! I'm getting kinda bored with these things. At least, that's what I thought when I drew these in my sketchbook. Then I wanted to arrange them differently. Since I was too tired yesterday to do a sketchbook entry, I did two of them this evening. This one is to make up for a lost drawing day yesterday.
Look, Perspective! Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009
I was so incredibly tired this evening! All I really wanted to do was a sketchbook entry, and that was it. I'm still trying to decide what I want my project to be this week. Anyway, with this entry, I decided to try to draw some buildings in perspective, and I think I got it right. Then, instead of just shading everything with pencil, I tried to shade with colored pencil. I think I did that right, too. Everything that I thought the light would be shining on I did in a lighter shade of the colored pencil I was using. Then the darker side I did in a darker shade of the same color with the same pencil. I did the cast shadow with a 3B pencil. The only things I wasn't sure about were if the horizon line should be straight through the background, or if it should line up with the perspective line. I tried to do it as a straight line through the background. The other thing I wasn't sure about was whether or not the base line of each building should line up with the perspective line, or if it would be okay to lift it up a little. I lifted it up a little because I think it looks better. That's pretty much it for that.
TV Sets and Buildings Monday, Sept. 21, 2009
I did this entry right after I got home from work and changed my clothes. Since it was raining today, I decided not to go to the park and walk. I worked in the studio for about an hour, then I came upstairs and made dinner for me and Dad. We watched a little TV, then I headed back downstairs into the studio to work for another three hours.
Instead of drawing just one structure, I drew a bunch of them and I made some of them into TVs and the others are just buildings. And I really need to consider moving my shading to the other side from time to time. I just hate getting pencil all over my hand when I am shading because then it ends up all over the drawing, and I hate that because then it looks messy. I used a 4B pencil for the shading on this one which is just as messy as a 6B pencil.

A Simple Structure Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009
This is just a simple structure I drew. I wanted to do the outline in black pen and then do the shading with a 6B pencil to see if I liked the way it looks. I do like it. This was just a sketchbook entry that I was playing around with.
Seasons Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009
I did this sketch today after I got back from my walk with my dog, Calvin. As we were walking along, I looked down and found a small leaf on the sidewalk. I thought it looked interesting because of the green splotch that was on it. Up until right then, I hadn't really noticed that the leaves are starting to change colors again. Most everything is still green, but there are places in the trees where you can see the yellows and reds starting to pop out.
My First Sketchbook Page
These little towers, and buildings really don't mean that much to me, but they are fun to draw and shade.
Seussical Towers
Bending towers. How Seussical! I didn't get much else done tonight because I had to work today, and when I got home, I was pretty tired. This was all I had time for. That's better than nothing.
